Heritage unhappy with Rubio on immigration

As the United States Senate began debating Sen. Marco Rubio’s, R-Fla., immigration reform bill today, The Heritage Foundation launched an unprecedented online advertising campaign against the legislation.

“The bill is an amnesty proposal dressed up in feel-good ‘pathway to citizenship’ rhetoric,” Heritage marketing vice president Genevieve Wood said. The Heritage Foundation’s $100,000 campaign is designed to “cut through the spin and show the proposal for what it really is—a rehashed version of the 1986 reforms that proved to be an abysmal failure,” she continued.

One Heritage image features a picture of Rubio and his recent promise to Univision: “First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border.” The ad’s tag line then reads: “Amnesty? Guaranteed. Border security? Not so much.”

The Heritage Foundation has never been shy about sharing its opinion of specific legislation before Congress. But the scope of this ad buy is an escalation for the think tank that is now run by former-Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.

“We know that lawmakers are not going to push, promote and pass conservative ideas unless people understand and support them,” DeMint told Yahoo News this April. “So what I want to do is use my career in advertising and marketing to figure out how to connect with the American people in a way that inspires them and shows them that they can achieve the things they want in their lives if they support the right public policies.”

Heritage is one of the few conservative organizations doing any advertising on the issue this time.  Several liberal groups and some conservative supporters of amnesty are trotting out ads to support the bill including one associated with Karl Rove.

My problem with this legislation is that it has no deterrent for future illegal immigration.  It is only setting us up for the next amnesty/Democrat voter registration drive.  Chuck Schumer claim that it will halt illegal immigration is not based on fact.  People are still streaming into the country with the help of the drug cartels and this is after the supposed cut off date for the "path to citizenship."

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
