Some tell Hutchison not to resign

Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is getting some GOP pressure to change her mind about resigning her seat, but a close friend predicted Wednesday that her decision will hinge on whether she can balance her service with what is best for her young children.

Hutchison was not talking Wednesday, the day after losing her GOP primary challenge of Gov. Rick Perry. A spokeswoman, who turned down a request to interview her, said she was in Dallas.

Hutchison's future was a hot topic in political circles: Her decision will affect the fate of ambitious politicians and come into play as the GOP maps its strategy for gaining more U.S. Senate seats this year. It also could hand a juicy plum to Perry, who would appoint her successor pending a special election.

“My pitch to her would be that … it's in the best interest of the state and the best interest of the Republican Party and in her best interest to stay in the Senate for a while,” said John Cornyn, Texas' junior senator and chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “My hope would be (that) she would consider staying through the duration of her term, which is through 2012.”

Cornyn said he tried, but had been unable to connect with her by mid-afternoon.

Houston lawyer Pat Oxford — a longtime close friend of Hutchison's who has worked on her campaigns — said they had not discussed her decision, but he thinks consideration of her 8-year-olds will play a big part.

While I am sure she can still do a good job for Texas, I think she needs to work on spending as much time as she can with those eight year old girls. She and Ray waited pretty late in life to begin a family and while Ray has been a full time father Kay has shuttled between Washington and Dallas and missed some events that I am sure she would have liked to attend. With the Governor's race behind her there is really no accomplishment she needs to aim for at this point.

I would also like to see Mike Williams get a good head start on the job and put himself in a position to win a special election. I think he can be a dynamic new voice for Texas in Washington.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
