'Threat to regime' returns to streets in Tehran
Hundreds of protesters crowded Tehran's Haft-e Tir Square on Monday, despite warnings from the government, eyewitnesses said. There is nothing like a run on sentence to get your point across, I guess. I can imagine how much wordier it would be if it were not for the ellipse. The bad news for the regime is that the demonstrators are back and they are still getting their message out. As the scenes in the YouTube below show the protesters are fighting back and in some cases turning the government forces around.Six people were seen arrested at the square.
Hundreds of Basij militia -- some in plainclothes -- and riot police were trying to disperse the crowd and managed to clear a crowded pedestrian overpass near the square, the witnesses said. Two helicopters circled overhead.
There were lots of Internet postings on Twitter and Facebook about a 4 p.m. (7:30 a.m. ET) vigil at Haft-e Tir Square for a young female protester identified as Neda. Her death, which was caught on camera, has become a rallying cry for many protesters.
At Monday's rally in the square, one witness said a male protester in his 20s was chased into an alley by two members of the pro-government Basij militia. A group of protesters chased the Basijis away and then the crowd could be heard chanting "Do not be scared. We are all together."

On Monday, the country's Revolutionary Guard warned that protesters who "disturb the peace and stand up to security forces" will be considered a threat to the regime and will be met with a strong response.
"The guardians of the Islamic revolution and the courageous Basiji together with the security forces following the orders of the supreme leader and following him unquestioningly, are determined to act strongly to return peace and tranquility to society ... and to clean the country of these plotters and hooligans," the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement, according to Iran's state-run news agency, IRNA.

The crowd seems to have a sense that if they stick together the police and the Basij cannot deter them. For the time being they have lost their fear and that could be a real scary thing for the regime of the religious bigots. In this video at the end your can see when the police turn and run away.
The BBC reports that the Guards have fired tear gas and have also fired their rifles into the air in an attempt to disburse the protesters.
