The buzz this week that Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska is planning to join Sen. Barack Obama on an up-coming visit to Iraq is correct, two sources with knowledge of the trip confirmed Friday.Sen. * is one of the least knowledgeable persons with pretensions of expertise on warfare which he learned riding on the back of a tank in Vietnam. There is no evidence that he expanded his knowledge beyond that experience since the war. One of the reasons he is retiring is that his position on the war made his reelection unlikely. Obama would be better served going with McCain. that way he might learn something beyond his own prejudice.A spokesman for Sen. Obama declined to comment on any details or even confirm the date uncertain trip, citing security concerns. A spokesman for Sen. Hagel did not respond to requests for comment.
While it is standard practice for such trips—known as CODELS, or congressional delegations—to be bipartisan, in this highly charged election year it is likely to raise eyebrows that the retiring Nebraskan senator—a prominent Iraq War critic—is the Republican expected to join the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee on what is sure to be a closely watched visit to the region.

On January 11, 2007, CNN reported that Senator Chuck Hagel said implementation of the surge would be "the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam, if it's carried out."
That was at the same time that Barack Obama was making similar comments, including saying that sending the additional 20,000 troops to Iraq would increase the violence, not decrease it.
Plainly, neither one of them had the slightest idea what they were talking about, but were both reacting to the emotional feelings about the war at the time. In Obama's case, it is not hard to understand his views -- he has no military experience and comes from a very left wing, America-hating environment.
But in Hagel's case it took a real stubborn streak, and unmistakably bad judgment to get where he is.
Here was an E-5 who served with distinction in Viet-Nam, and yet, he has now somehow managed to politically crawl in bed with an embarrassing neophyte who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.
So, as regards their insight and most importantly their judgment, I hate to say it, but it looks like we're dealing with "Dumb and Dumber."
