Obama in the manger

Well, the coverage of the Obama trip has reached the point that the media are now nightly fodder for the "Daily Show," where the intrepid correspondents talk about how, uh, aroused they are covering the conquering hero of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

"Obama was off to Israel, where he made a quick stop at the manger in Bethlehem where he was born," Jon Stewart reported.

And that's before the new issue of People hits the stands, with the Obama family on the cover, and such revelations as the daughters getting a $1 allowance for making their beds and cleaning the toy closet, and no birthday present because Mom and Dad want to teach them some limits.

As for McCain, he got nine paragraphs in yesterday's New York Times and seven in The Washington Post. Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson did give him something approaching equal time, but there was a problem with the "CBS Evening News" interview, which I'll get to later.

Obama made no apparent mistakes in Israel yesterday, and if the cable coverage was less elaborate than in previous days, it was because they all rushed off from his news conference to cover Hurricane Dolly. Apparently television can only cover one storm at a time, and Hurricane Barack was briefly sidelined.

One of the strange things about the coverage by some of the media on Obama's trip is how they have missed many of the gaffes and mistakes and their assumption that everyone else missed it too. But, the ABC News interview and the interview by Katie Couric where he was asked about the surge was disastrous for Obama.

His response was at best incoherent and at worse idiotic. His insistence that he would still oppose the successful surge is just an absurd position. A year ago he said he was willing to accept genocide as the price of his pullout strategy and now he says the surge was a mistake? Only a fool would pick defeat and genocide over victory.

When Sen. McCain points out this problem Joe Klien reacts as if the statement makes McCain disqualified to be President and not Obama. How can Klien make such a ridiculous statement?

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
