The second bomber in Israeli attack

Jerusalem Post:

Top police brass heaped praise Monday on Superintendent Kobi Mor, who shot and killed a second suicide bomber as the latter tried to detonate his explosive belt after the first suicide attack in Dimona.

The second bomber was wounded by the initial blast, before he could set off his bomb.

Dr. Baruch Mandelzweig said he was at his clinic nearby when he heard the blast. He and his nurses rushed out to the street and spotted a critically injured man whose head was moving, and began to treat him before realizing he was also a bomber.

"We saw an explosive belt," he said. "We ran away."

Mor, commander of special anti-smuggling unit Magen, which operates on the Egyptian border, said he heard about the attack on his police radio. "I did a U-turn and went straight for Dimona", he told reporters. "When I arrived at the scene I was told that there was a terrorist with an explosive belt that was still alive. I fired four shots at him and thought I'd killed him, but then I saw him lifting his hand again".

"I came out from my cover, about 15 meters away, and shot him in the head.", Supt. Mor said.

"I wasn't feeling anything as it was happening, I did as I was taught to act in such a situation. I identified the explosive belt he was wearing, knelt down and shot him. It was all instinctive, I was only thinking about saving lives," he concluded.

Soon the bomber was feeling nothing either.

It is unusual for one bomber to be wounded by another. Usually they stay far enough away that they can attack those who come to help the victims. That is probably what was intended in this case. I suspect that the Palestinians are out of practice at mass murder. Fortunately for the Israelis they had a trained officer near the scene to end it.
