Religion by counties in the US
Strange Maps has a map that shows the dominant religion across the country in each county. What I find curious about the map is Iowa where the Lutheran church is apparently strong in several counties. If you look at Texas, one of the two gold specks is Washington County and I can attest to at least the number of Lutheran church buildings in the area.
We are told that a high number of evangelicals in Iowa turned the election for Huckabee, but it would be difficult to confuse a Lutheran in Washington County with evangelicals. There is a story of one candidate when filling out a form for an interest group responded to the question on religious preference with, "None, I am a Lutheran."
It is an interesting map. It would also be interesting to see it side by side with the red-blue map ov voters by county.
