The fury of conservatives

Power Line:

I've long been dismayed by the fury of many conservatives' attacks on John McCain. I understand why McCain is not some conservatives' first choice for the nomination, but the ongoing effort to read him out of the conservative movement has gone way too far. To assert, as some have, that there is "really" no difference between McCain (average ADA rating from 2002 through 2006 of 23%) and Hillary Clinton (average ADA rating over the same period of 96%) is the kind of never-mind-the-facts shrillness that we expect from the Left, not from our fellow conservatives.

...
There is much more.

Some of the criticism has been over the top. It is good that McCain feel some of the blow back for his past apostasies. Perhaps he will moderate his future conduct. He will probably have to. Conservatives are probably never going to be enthusiastic about his candidacy, but they will probably vote for him in hopes that winning the war will demonstrate how wrong liberals have been on the use of force. The fury will also let him know the limited extent of his mandate. Win the war and cut spending. Attempts to enact the globo warming nonsense will regenerate the fury.
