UK turns security jobs over to illegal immigrants

Five thousand illegal immigrants have been cleared to work as security guards at some of the UK's most sensitive buildings.

In yet another Government blunder, the Home Office has allowed the immigrants to take up posts at ports and airports - and even at Whitehall - despite having no legal right to be in the country.

And checks on the man who is in charge of guarding Gordon Brown's prime ministerial car against terrorist booby-traps revealed he was in the country illegally.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) said it was not its job to even ask applicants seeking jobs protecting the public if they were illegal immigrants.

The only checks carried out were on a person's past behaviour or for any criminal record.

Since the situation came to light in July, officials admitted as many as 5,000 illegal immigrants have been given SIA licences over the past three years. It is feared they also include up to six people working at the Metropolitan Police.

The latest fiasco follows revelations last year that the Home Office had itself employed illegal immigrants on at least seven separate occasions.

It employed the workers both directly and indirectly, including five Nigerians who were caught working as cleaners within days of John Reid taking charge of the department last May.

Whenever I despair over the rule of law in the US when it comes to illegal immigrants, there is always something in the UK that happens to show that the "mother country" is even more inept. Perhaps we inherited this incompetence.

I think maybe our illegals may not be as bold as theirs too. Certainly, the government in the UK has given them little reason to not be bold. I blame political correctness too. It is even worse in the UK and apparently it was not considered sporting to ask a chap if he is in the country illegally before putting him in charge of guarding things that might be of interest to terrorist. The article does indicate that new applicants have been asked the question since July. They are looking into the folks granted licenses before that time.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
