The Democrats' retreat from reason

George Packer attacks Republican candidates because they do not want to join the Democrats' precipitous retreat from reason in the fight with a wicked enemy. Packer seems like the kind of guy who will not even concede the wickedness of an enemy whose very strategy is to engage in mass murder of non combatants.

When Pat Robertson endorses Rudy Giuliani, Packer says:

... Robertson explained his support for the pro-choice, pro-gay-rights candidate by stating, “The overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists”—bringing to mind no one so much as the foreign-policy commentator Borat, who told a rodeo audience in Virginia, “May George Bush drink the blood of every single man, woman, and child of Iraq.”

...
What kind of person compares a rational statement about the enemy seeking to destroy us to a stupid movie with a stupid statement about the President drinking the blood of Iraqis. Packer appears to have joined the retreat from reason while accusing Republicans of doing the same. He is the one who is out of touch with the threats facing this country. His attitude explains much of what is wrong with the modern Democrat party which wants to pretend that our enemies are the fault of the political leadership in this country that is resisting their war against us.

If you read his piece, you will know why the Democrats deserve to lose the 2008 election. With supporters like Packer, they have left the world of reason and joined the fantasy world.
