Muslim "meathead" in Australia

BBC:

Australia's papers are dismissive of Sheikh Hilali's apology for remarks in which he compared immodestly dressed women to "uncovered meat".

Several commentators say his expressions of regret do not go far enough, and call on Australia's Muslim community to take tougher action against the cleric.

One paper argues that Sheikh Hilali should be stripped of any office that allows him to speak on behalf of the country's Muslims, and another suggests he might consider moving somewhere where his views do not seem so out of place.

I have discussed this episode before, but there is a new dynamic at work here. While the Aussie papers are not throwing a tantrum, the cleric's remarks are getting a full throated rebuke. I wonder if he sympathizes with the Pope now?

Tim Blair is all over this story and as usual is very entertaining in his criticism. One suggestion for the Sheik's spinners is that if his speeches do not translate well into English, he might try learning the language. Now that is an idea.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014. When the Congressional Budget Office crunched Obamacare's spending numbers, they estimated that only 7% of employees currently covered by employer-sponsored plans would lose their plans. ...
