Border Hispanics abandon Biden and Democrats

 Washington Examiner:

With recent polls showing Hispanic voters evenly split between the parties, Democrats must be worried about their ability to win national elections .

A record 239,416 migrants were detained for crossing the southern border without authorization last month, according to records filed by the Department of Homeland Security in federal court Thursday. Despite a court order mandating that President Joe Biden fully enforce Title 42, just 42% of those detained were returned to Mexico under that legal authority. Of the remaining 138,717 migrants arrested, just 16,451 were deported. Nearly all the rest were immediately released to go wherever they want in the United States.

In total, since Biden was sworn into office, 1.25 million illegal migrants have been caught and released into the country. Unless they are arrested for other crimes, virtually none of them will ever be deported. That means Biden has caught and released an illegal immigrant population the size of Dallas since he became president.

This flood of migrants is disrupting the lives of those living in border communities . It has gotten so bad that the Biden administration is now transporting released migrants throughout the country to cities including Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles.

Given the humanitarian crisis caused by Biden’s open border policies, it should not be a surprise that Hispanics in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley are abandoning the Democratic Party in droves.

This Tuesday, Mayra Flores (R) beat Dan Sanchez (D) 51%-43% to become the first Republican to win a congressional seat in that part of the valley in 150 years. She will also become the first congresswoman in the nation's history to have been born in Mexico.

Flores, who is married to a Border Patrol agent and often wore a Border Patrol hat at her campaign events, ran a law-and-order campaign under the slogan “God, Family, Country.” In her campaign ads, she said the valley “is under attack," adding that "we must secure our border and keep our families safe."

Border security, admittedly, was not the only issue in the race. Flores’s ads also said, “Washington liberals are killing the American dream, attacking oil and gas, and causing prices to skyrocket.” Hispanics, like everyone else, identify “inflation” as their top issue and, also like everyone else, correctly blame Biden’s spending and environmental policies for causing inflation to rise to 40-year highs.

But the ability of Republicans to win Hispanic voters over with the same economic message they are using for everyone else only shows how wrong the establishment Washington consultants were who wrote the Republican National Committee’s post-2012 election autopsy. That document called for Republicans to move leftward on immigration, embracing many of the same open border policies Biden is implementing today.

The GOP has since gone in the opposite direction, nominating a presidential candidate who was far tougher on border security than any other Republican candidate in generations. Former President Donald Trump occasionally misfired on the issue — Hispanics did not like his family separation policy, for example. But his "Remain in Mexico" program successfully ended the 2019 border crisis, and his Title 42 policies kept the border secure during COVID — that is, until Biden began to roll these policies back as soon as he was sworn into office.
...

Biden's immigration policies make no sense to most Texans whether they are on the border or not. Smart voters will be voting against Democrats shp support the open borders policies.
