NRA voter intensity is key to its clout and attacks like the current one enhance that intensity
NY Times:
Obama moved to make local law enforcement less likely to file charges which if were on the record would have made it impossible for the shooter to acquire a gun. The local Sheriff failed to file any charges despite 29 complaint calls against teh shooter some of which were serious enough to merit charges. The FBI failed to react to a very specific warning that the shooter was planning a school shooting. None of that was the NRA's fault.
Much of the media has made unfair attacks on the NRA attempting to incriminate them with vicarious liability for the acts of a shooter who was not a member or in anyway associates. Some have called for group punishment.
That is a mistake NRA opponents continue to make. Much of the criticism of the NRA initially was aimed at donors. Also as the facts come in it is becoming more clear that the problem was not the law but the failure at every level of law enforcement to enforce the law.Source of N.R.A.’s Clout: Mobilization, Not Donations
