Obama has lost support for Afghan effort

NY Times:

Support in U.S. for Afghan War Drops Sharply, Poll Finds

A New York Times/CBS News poll found that 69 percent of Americans surveyed think that the United States should not be at war in Afghanistan.
I think the drop in support is a combination of Obama's lack of leadership on the issue.  He has tended to let matters drift and took conservative support for granted, while his anti war base gave him a pass.  The thing that triggered impatience with his strategy was the tantrums thrown by Afghans over the alleged Koran burning.  That conduct is seen as ridiculous by most sane people.

It made it easier for Americans to see the Afghans as not worth the effort.  Obama has yet to mount a persuasive case that they are.  Certainly, Karzai has not.
