Dothan, Alabama has deal for Jews who move there

An organization is offering up to $50,000 for Jewish families to move to the town of about 58,000. The story points out that most of the residents are Christian. That does not mean they have any hostility toward Jews.

My former law partner was a burly Irishman who had been adopted by a Jewish family from South Carolina when he was 10 years old. He was trying a case in Alabama several years ago and in the closing argument the opposing counsel said "Mr. Solomon is trying to crucify my client."

When my partner got his turn he said, "I would remind the jury that the other two people on crosses that day were thieves." The jury came back with a verdict in his favor.

I am reminded of that story whenever I drive to San Antonio to see my son. Off the freeway on I-35 is a huge church that incorporates three giant crosses in its landscape. I keep asking myself, "What were they thinking?"

  1. Merv,

That is a great legal story. Would you have any objection to me sharing that on my blog: Nobody Likes a Jerk? My lawyer friends would love it.

    Best,
    Darryl
