Spitzer resigns

Fox News has shown his resignation with his wife by his side again. CNN had reported earlier today that the announcement would be made. There is much speculation about whether he has worked a deal with the government on the potential charges he might face. I suspect if there was a deal it would have been announced at the time. Spitzer was facing an untenable situation in Albany where the Republicans were moving a bill of impeachment and no Democrats were standing up to block it.

The NY Times report on the resignation headlines his admission of personal failings, which is worth a big No Kidding.

...

In the two days since news of Mr. Spitzer’s involvement in the prostitution ring surfaced, he has been engaged in an intense legal and family debate about whether to resign or, as aides said his wife was urging, to stay on.

...
If that was her advice you have to wonder what she was thinking.

...

“An impeachment proceeding would force Democrats to either abandon him or defend him,” said one leading Democrat. “They would abandon him.”

...
It is strange that she would find his conduct more defensible than his political "allies."
