Passing over talent--Col. H. R. McMaster
Richard Lowry says that Col. H. R. McMaster was recently passed over for Brigadier General for the second time. This is a shame for a fine officer and a tragedy for the Army. He has been one of the best minds in the Army for some time and his doctoral thesis detailing the mistakes of the Vietnam War was later published as the best selling book Dereliction of Duty.
McMaster also developed the strategy that drove al Qaeda out of Tal Afar and started the turning point against al Qaeda in Iraq. He has been on Gen. Petraeus' staff in implementing teh counter insurgency strategy that has turned the war around in Iraq. He is a man I though would eventually have four stars on his collar and it appears he will be denied his first. It is a regrettable decision by the Army.
