But it seems that children have a distinctly hazy idea of Winston Churchill's place in history.Being that ignorant must take a lot of work to avoid basic information. I can't remember when I did not know who Churchill was and by the time I was in high school I was reading his multi volume set on World War II. I am reminded of a scene in a production about his life with his wife where one of the grand children sneaked into his study one day and asked him if he was a "great man." Churchill responded, "yes. Now bugger on out of here."
One in three primary school pupils think the Second World War leader was the first man to walk on the moon, according to a survey yesterday.

The display of ignorance comes a matter of months after a poll of adults revealed that a quarter of those questioned thought Churchill never existed at all.

The survey, which was on astronomy, found that two in five children think Mars is just a chocolate bar, while a third believe Earth is not an official planet.

Maybe this article in the July 14, 2007, edition of the Sun will put things in perspective - Kids will still learn about Winnie. One surprising aspect of the report - it did not suggest making Stalin, Marx, Lenin and Castro honorary Brits and putting them on the most famous Brits list.
