Al Qaeda's most dangerous job

With the Predator missile attack on Hamza Rabia the US knocked out the latest operational commander for the al Qaeda terrorist. Hamza replaced Abu Faraj Libbi who was captured last May. Libbi replaced Khalid Sheik Mohammed who had also been captured in Pakistan. There is a theme here. All three of al Qaeda's operational; commanders have been captured or killed in Pakistan since the group was chased out of Pakistan after the 9-11 attack.

This suggest that Pakistan is still the center of gravity for al Qaeda management even if their war effort is global. It is where many believe Osama bin Laden and Aymin Zawahiri have their hidey hole. The fact of the matter is that Pakistan does not really control the area where these guys are hiding, but it will not permit anyone elese to go in and deal with the problem.

It should be noted that another operational commander was killed by a Predator missile strike during al Qaeda's retreat in Afghanistan.

While the media talks about al Qaeda's ability to find replacements, this attrition disrupts its command structure and reduces its experience level. At some point, there will be a recognition that this job is a terminal career choice.
