Journalist group does not comprehend how Iraqi insurgent's violation of Geneva Convention put them at risk and led to injury and death of journalist
The Guardian has a story where "International Federation of Journalists called on the US administration to come clean over its "mistakes" in the region."
The group is taking up where Eason Jordon left off at Davos.
The facts are that journalist and civilians are put at risk by enemy forces using civilian clothing to camoflage their presence. This is a clear violation of the Geneva Convention which requires that combatants wear distinctive uniforms and openly carry arms. The US troops do this the enemy does not. There is a rason why the Geneva Convention describes this conduct as that of an "unlawful combatant." By hiding among civilians the enemy puts the civilians at risk as well as journalist dressed as civilians. Of course the journalist could dress like US troops, but then they would be deliberatly targeted by the enemy. None of the cases the IFJ is complaining about suggest an unreasonable response to a perceived threat.
This complaint just justifies the impressions of many that these journalist do not comprehend where the true danger is for them.
