Brits freese accounts funding Zarqawi and al Qaeda

The Scotsman:

A man suspected of funding Iraq’s most wanted terrorist had his finances frozen by the Chancellor today under United Nations measures to combat the funding of al Qaida.

Financial institutions have been told by Gordon Brown that any money which they hold for or on behalf of Sulayman Darwish must be frozen immediately.

Darwish is suspected of funding the militant leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, one of the world’s most wanted men.

...

Darwish, who is suspected of having links to al Qaida, is currently believed to be in Syria, his home country.

Other countries have also ordered their financial institutions to freeze his funds.

So why does Ted Kennedy keep insisting that al Qaeda is not operating in Iraq?
