The woke left is losing minorities
MSNBC host and former civil rights leader Al Sharpton had some choice words for the far-left elitist crowd when discussing why the Democratic party is losing minority voters. It was a significant departure from his usual race-baiting claptrap, but you know what they say about broken clocks, right?
During a conversation with fellow host Joe Scarborough on Monday, both men criticized white progressive elites for failing to understand the needs and concerns of minority voters. Scarborough began:
“Let me say it slowly for my Democratic friends in Washington D.C. Black voters are more conservative than you are, white woke leaders in Washington D.C. Hispanic voters are more conservative than you are, white woke leaders in Washington D.C. Asian American voters are more conservative than you are, white woke voters in Washington D.C. and they’re more conservative on crime, they’re more conservative on education, they’re more conservative on ‘these woke issues.’ Get off of Twitter!”
...
Scarborough then turned to Rev. Sharpton to get his take on the matter. Sharpton explained:
“They’re losing people of color because they really don’t get the people of color’s life. If you are living in a city neighborhood that is inundated with crime and you act like that is not an issue, you’ve already lost me. That is an issue. Yes, we must deal with policing, I’ve been out front with that. But you cannot ignore when 12-year-old kids, whose somebody’s niece and neighbor’s kid, get killed and you act like that’s a non-issue because you’re too elitist to live on the ground.”
Of course, Sharpton and Scarborough were only saying what conservatives like myself have been screaming for years. Most of the policies that we see progressives champion are not very popular with the black community. The very idea that these folks would push for defunding the police at a time when violent crime is skyrocketing in predominantly black and brown neighborhoods is proof positive that most of these people have probably never sat down and had actual conversations with everyday black Americans.
It should come as no surprise that more black and brown voters are gravitating away from the Democratic Party. A recent poll revealed the truth of the matter:
The survey also found Republicans making gains among minority groups. By 9 percentage points, Hispanic voters in the new poll said they would back a Republican candidate for Congress over a Democrat. The two parties had been tied among Hispanic voters in the Journal’s survey in November.
Democratic margins also eroded among Black voters, who favored a Democrat for Congress by 35 percentage points in the new survey, down from 56 points in November. Support for a Republican candidate rose to 27% among Black voters, up from 12% in November.
...
They have hit on one reason why Democrats are likely to get shellacked in 2022 and beyond. From Biden on down to congressional Democrats, they appear out of touch with the real world and the impact of crime on minorities. They are way too busy listening to BLM which is not representative of the black mainstream.
