The WaPo's limited hangout on Hunter's laptop story

 Fox News:

A Sunday editorial from the Washington Post editorial board called for a public reckoning over the media's handling over the Hunter Biden laptop story.

The editorial is titled "The Hunter Biden story is an opportunity for a reckoning," and discusses what the press should learn from the saga surrounding Hunter Biden's laptop. In particular, the article referenced why news outlets like themselves are now authenticating thousands of emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop when the emails were first reported in 2020. While the editorial board insisted that did not prove any corruption on the part of President Biden, this did raise several questions about the media.

The Post is wrong when it says it "did not prove any corruption on the part of President Biden."  There is clear evidence that Joe Biden benefited from Hunter's operations.  There are emails on the laptop that say a percentage of the take was given to Joe Biden and that Hunter was using the money to pay Joe's bills. There is certainly enough evidence to do a forensic audit of the flow of funds to Hunter to benefit Joe.  The same may be true of the money collected by Joe's brother in what looks like an influence-peddling operation.

Turley: Special Counsel Must Be Appointed to Investigate Hunter Biden

The point is that President Biden really did not have to ask: Hunter Biden had nothing to sell but influence. All President Biden had to do to facilitate such schemes was to be accessible — to allow his family to deliver face-to-face meetings and photo ops.

And that brings us to the untenable position of [Attorney General Merrick] Garland.

It is hard to imagine a stronger case for a special counsel. Any effort to investigate Hunter Biden’s dealings will lead investigators to encounter repeated references to the president and how he may have benefited from those schemes. At the same time, the president is “absolutely” standing by his denial that his son did anything wrong or made any money from China.

Turley has also pointed to statements by President Biden, reported recently by the New York Times, that President Biden wants Garland to be more aggressive in pursing Trump.
