Austin police 'reimagine' crime response

Austin, Texas, police are urging the public to call 311 instead of 911 to report nonemergencies, authorities said.

Starting Friday, individuals in the city are asked to use 311 when reporting crimes that are either no longer in process, when the suspect is no longer on the scene, or when there is no immediate threat to life or property, according to the Austin Police Department.

"Please understand, if somebody is in danger, we’re still going to send a marked unit and a uniformed officer to go handle it," interim police chief Joseph Chacon explained Wednesday, according to KXAN-TV. "But for crimes that may have already happened and are now being reported, we are looking at alternative measures, and that’s what we’re working on now."

Chacon said the changes come amid recent staffing challenges, reimagining public safety task force recommendations, and its review of its patrol COVID-19 mitigation protocols, which started May 2020.

The "staffing challenges" came after the liberal mayor of Austin had the bad idea of defunding the police.  The move led to an increase in violent crime and fewer police officers to deal with it.  Austin really needs to stop electing Democrats if it wants to have a safer community.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
