Why there are so many standardized tests
Washington Post:
The reason so many tests are required is because too many educators are not doing their jobs. They are not effectively teaching material to the kids and if you do not take the standardized tests you don;t know they are not getting the education the need until it is too late. When my kids were in school they actually did well on the standardized tests. My grand kids who are home schooled also take a lot of standardized tests and it is a good measure of their progress. In fact they voluntarily take ACT tests to see how they are progressing.
A typical student takes 112 required tests between pre-K and 12th grade, and many of the exams have dubious value. The Education Department offered a guide to reducing redundant and poor-quality tests.
