NRA tells Democrats Holder contempt vote important

NY Times:

Democrats Feel Pressure From Gun Lobby on Contempt Vote

The National Rifle Association has joined a Republican push to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt of Congress, turning the matter into a proxy war over gun control.
There is some evidence that the purpose of Fast in Furious was to get weapons bought in the US to Mexican crime scenes in order to push for more regulations of gun sales.  There are memos that suggest this and there was a pattern and practice by the Justice department to push misleading statistics on the percentage of weapons found at these scenes as originating in the US.

They did this by only counting guns sent back to the US for analysis.  In other words they ignored the vast majority of guns found at the scene that were from Mexico's on arsenal or bought on the black market from Central America.  This concerted effort to deceive was aided by many in the media who published the misleading stats without disclosing how misleading they were.

We are now seeing stories which quote some of the same people responsible for the program while ignoring the volume of evidence that contradicts them.  I think the NRA is right to push for the production of the requested documents that are aimed at find who was responsible for lying to Congress about the program.  I have not heard a persuasive case for denying the documents.
