What to do about meth madness

NY Times:

The Criminalization of Bad Mothers

Does taking meth make a pregnant woman responsible for the death of her premature baby? The testing of “fetal personhood.” Above, the family of Amanda Kimbrough.
Meth has been so addictive that some people have killed to get the money to buy more.  Taking meth while pregnant can also lead to fatalities for the baby.  It seems to me that it is an act that is criminally irresponsible.  It can be argued that the meth addiction is so powerful that people can not control their desire for the drug.  But we cannot allow that to excuse criminal acts whether it is the killing of grand parents to get money for the meth or stealing it from a sons's business.  I have seen both in South Arkansas.  The justice system needs to rehabilitate those who are under the influence of this evil drug, but it can't excuse the killing of innocent people that results from the addiction.
