Rep. Kucinich, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency, said Syria's President al-Assad is "loved and appreciated" by his people.…

I think there had to be a transliteration error.  Kucinich is somewhat flaky, to coin a phrase, but he is not that flaky.   With Assad killing hundreds of his people, there does not appear to be much love on either side.
