Taliban claim capture of 'drunk' US soldier
CNN:
The story does not mention whether the captured soldier will be treated in accordance with the Geneva Conventions. The Taliban spokesman should be asked that question. If he does receive such treatment, he would probably be the first US captive in this war to be so treated.
...This claim seems highly improbable. Alcohol would be hard to come by in Afghanistan even if a soldier desired it. It is strange that one soldier would be operating with a few Afghan soldiers on their own. That seems pretty inconsistent with normal operations in Afghanistan. If true it was clearly a mistake. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the abduction. The U.S. soldier was kidnapped along with three Afghan soldiers, Taliban commander Mulvi Sangeen said.
The U.S. soldier visited a military post in the Yousaf Khel district and got drunk, Sangeen said. He was ambushed while returning to his car and was taken to a safe place, Sangeen said.
CNN could not independently verify Sangeen's claims.
