Suddenly there is competition for operatng systems, searches and browsers
Much of the tech news this week has been focused on Google's announcement that it will be offering Chrome operating system on a limited basis soon. This came just weeks after Microsoft offered an improved search engine under the Bing label. PC Magazine sees it as a battle of the browsers.
If it is a battle of browsers, Firefox should be in the mix. I still prefer it to IE or Chrome. I have seen good things about Chrome, but my installation did not make a smooth transition of bookmarks, so it was of limited use to me. I have never cared for IE.
I do like Bing, but it is going to have to find away onto the search drop down menu on Firefox for me to be a regular user. Google is a hard habit to break.
I am glad to see the competition. I think as users we will benefit from it and the companies should be energized by the process too.
BTW the Bing search results for Chrome is here. The second item listed when i did the search was, "Odds are stacked against Chrome OS's success."
I would not bet against Bing or Chrome at this point.
