Brits have much higher casualty rate than US in Afghanistan
Telegraph:
It should be noted that Marines in the same area as the Brits have inflicted greater casualties on the enemy, while suffering fewer than the Brits. This suggest there needs to be more study of the Marines way of making war.
Even combined these casualty figures are remarkably low for a war that the media has been touting as increasingly dangerous. Some of the Brit casualties reflect their way of making war. Their new combat vehicle, for example, is completely open making the troops much more vulnerable. The statistic was emphasised when a Royal Marine was killed by an explosion in Helmand province on Sunday.
Despite contributing more than 8,000 troops to the total foreign force of about 50,000, the British have suffered 14 deaths since Nov 1. The US has lost three soldiers from its deployment of 31,000.
The statistics show that Britain is now experiencing more than a third of all casualties in Afghanistan at a time when other Nato countries have been accused of failing to "step up to the mark" in providing combat forces.
