Obama lead shrinks after VP debate

Reuters:

Democrat Barack Obama has a narrow 3-point lead in the U.S. presidential race on Republican John McCain less than a month before the election, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Tuesday.

Obama leads McCain among likely U.S. voters 48 percent to 45 percent in the national poll, which has a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points. Four percent of voters said they were still undecided.

The survey, the first in a series of daily tracking polls that will sample public opinion until the November 4 election, showed Obama with an advantage among the crucial swing voting blocs of independents and women.

"Obama is leading among the key target groups, but this race is nowhere close to over," pollster John Zogby said. "The deal is far from closed."

These results are similar to a CBS News poll released yesterday which also showed a three point difference. While other polls have shown Obama with a wider lead, some as much as eight points, these two, which followed the VP debate show a much tighter race. This means that Sarah Palin has probably rebuffed the Democrats and their media's attempt to frame her as a light weight. She has also been effectively challenging Obama on his stand in Afghanistan and his hate America allies.

She is clearly much better since she has been freed to make her own case and is not having to deal with the gotcha media.

It should be noted that the polls continue to over sample Democrats. I think this might be a result of Rush Limbaugh's operation chaos where many conservatives crossover to register as Democrats to vote for Hillary. If those voters were taken out of the registered Democrat column it is likely that the race would be dead even. I still think the undecideds will swing to McCain.
