Biden goggles

You can tell how well Sarah Palin did and how poorly Joe Biden did in Thursday's debate by how much the NY Times editors and op-ed columns try either to ridicule her or rehabilitate Joe Biden. Charles Blow gives this example of the latter:

...

Through the booing and hissing, I saw a strong, authoritative, confident and sensitive candidate emerge. On the whole, he came across as intelligent and relatable; a real person. That’s a quality that often eludes Barack Obama.

...
Biden can sound authoritative while talking through his hat, but if Palin had made the factual errors that Biden made on at least 20 occasions the other two op-ed writers would have been talking about that instead of her syntax. They did the latter to denigrate her and make her appear unintelligent, when it was clear to those who actually checked what Biden was saying instead of the way he was saying it that he was the least intelligent person in the race.

The Times is yet to even look at the gross errors of fact that Biden argued so authoritatively. His statements about driving Hezballah out of Lebanon is just absurd. If Palin had something so obviously untrue, the Times would still be ridiculing her. It was as factually incorrect as his statements about Roosevelt going on TV when the market crashed.

He just happens to be liberal so the Times does not care. Because he is a liberal and one of their guys he can't be as ignorant as he sounds. It is part of the conceit of liberalism, that if you were really smart you would be a liberal. They further think that conservatives are not smart so they try to frame them in a way that makes them look less than smart. When you understand that you don't really need to read much of the Times editorial page today.
