The Reagan obsession among conservatives

Reagan was a much better President than I thought he would be. One of the reasons this was so, is that he in hind site was obviously right about a lot of issues that the Democrats thought he was obviously wrong about, and he was able to impose his views in many of these areas on the country and the world. He also made some terrific mistakes, such as the intervention in Lebanon.

He was at best inattentive while the Iran-Contra financing was taking place when he should have taken a more direct challenge against the ridiculous Bollen Amendment that prevented direct financing of the Contras. This was an issue where the Democrats were stupidly wrong and they should have been confronted on it and at least been made to bear the consequences of their ridiculous support of the Brezhnev Doctrine for a teetering Soviet Union.

I get a little tired of hearing about the search for the new Reagan. There are some good candidates in the race on the Republican side who can stand on their own merits and have a world vision that surpasses anyone on the Democrat side and we should be focused on that an not nostalgia.
