The black victimization card

No longer hidden by Times Select, Bob Herbert says Republicans were being mean to blacks because they opposed an unconstitutional attempt to give the District of Columbia a representative in Congress. Herbert gives no credit to the clear language of the Constitution and decides that Republicans just don't like blacks.

He then compounds this insult to logic by saying that the refusal to appear on Tavis Smiley's "debate" shows they are "the party that ran, like panting dogs, after the votes of segregationist whites who were repelled by the very idea of giving equal treatment to blacks."

This is just flat wrong. There has not been a race in the last 40 years where segregation has been an issue.

Democrats lost the vote of white southerners because Democrats are weak on national security and Democrats are for high taxes. Democrats are control freaks at home and weak over seas. As long as light weights keep calling whites bigots for voting against Democrats, they are not likely to get much agreement on any issues. Keep it up Herbert if you want to keep the Democrat party marginalized in the south.

This is not to argue that passing on the Smiley show is not a political mistake. The Washington Times argues that it is. It is probably a political calculation based on what appearance is most likely to generate votes. To call the decision racist is absurd.

Gateway Pundit takes an extended look at which party has been the party of racist.
