Racism and the south
Paul Krugman slanders southerners today in his NY Times Op-ed. He makes the bogus claim that white southerners are racist because the vote for Republicans. He uses the Jena Six kerfuffle as the pivot point for this bogus attack.
Southern whites by a large majority are way past the civil rights issues of decades ago. They support Republicans because of their main issues, strong national defense and controlling taxes. I am sure both of those issues are a stranger to Mr. Krugman, but they are still meaningful to southern voters. The suggestion that Republican white voters are racist is just ignorant.
