The NY Times "mistake"

The NY Times has admitted it made a mistake when it gave MoveOn its big discount on its ad placement on the day of Fen. Petraeus' testimony and that the ad violated its guidelines on personal attacks in this type of ad.

Thomas Lifson
correctly castigates the paper and its management for this "mistake." He notes a serious effort by the Times to cover up their efforts on behalf of MoveOn. None of these disclosures give enough credit to Bob Owens at Confederate Yankee who first brought the question to light about the ad charges.

This is just another blow to a brand that is already on the defensive. It is just another way its war with the Bush administration and our war effort in Iraq have discredited its editorial policies and judgments.

This is what happens when liberals live in a echo chamber with a self licking ice cream cone. They think everyone agrees with their warped judgment and that those who disagree with them not only don't have a case, but are not worthy of respect.

However, I am not prepared to be as hard on the Times as Thomas Lifson, because I think this MoveOn debacle has turned the debate in this country and given those of us who want to win this war an opportunity to make our case. The Times and MoveOn have been discredited and are on the defensive. That is good, but like the enemy in Iraq who is suffering the same problem, they have not quit yet and it is up to us to fight on to victory.
