Rudy and crime

David Frum:

...

They were visiting New York soon after Giuliani's first election as mayor. They stopped into an expensive boutique. Perhaps they had been followed or perhaps the store had been watched, but shortly after they entered the buzzer sounded and two men in suits were admitted. The men pulled guns, demanded jewelry, watches, and cash, and then after they had stolen everything of value, opened fire. The couple were very seriously wounded and rushed to hospital.

About an hour after they arrived, newly elected mayor Rudy Giuliani stopped by to look in upon them. He spoke to the hospital's chief of surgery and told him he was following the case with special concern. He visited the wounded couple four more times during their stay in hospital and repeatedly in upon their New York resident daughter to ensure that she knew that her parents were cared for.

The robbers were caught, convicted, and sentenced.

The couple often return to New York. I asked the woman how she felt about Mayor Giuliani. "He has a reputation for being kind of a rough character," I said. "Oh no," she answered. "I knew from the first time I talked to him - he really cared."

I think it is a reflection of his character that comes across in his debating skills. You know where his passions lay. Can you see Hillary doing this. Would you want her to, if you were a victim? Not too much.
