Clinton cuts still plague Military
Thomas Ricks writes about the shortage of troops for the new operation in Iraq even after adding 30,000 additional troops. The point of his article is that the military needs more troops, but he does not mention the damage done by the Clinton cuts in the 90's that substantially reduced the size of the military.
The current plan calls for the Iraqi security forces to make up the difference. Whether they are up to the task is still an open question.
For some reason Ricks and other critics of the size of the military ground forces want touch the mistake made by Clinton and the Democrats in the 90's that have made us vulnerable to this problem. It is an important issue, because they are asking us to trust their judgment on national security matters again.
