Chavez seeks alliance with other socialist "super powers"

President Hugo Chavez called for the creation of a common defense pact between Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Bolivia, while the leftist Latin American bloc announced the creation of a development bank to finance joint projects.

Chavez said Wednesday that the four-nation Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, or ALBA, which began as a socialist-leaning trade group, should cooperate militarily to become more independent of U.S. influence.

"It seems to be the moment to establish a joint defense strategy," Chavez said. He called for joint military aid as well as intelligence and counterintelligence cooperation "to prepare our people for defense so that nobody makes any mistake with us."

Chavez denounced countries in the region that collaborate with the United States on defense and security through the Washington-based Inter-American Defense Board.

He said closer defense cooperation was necessary because of "the terrorism and permanent aggression of the United States."

The countries also signed an agreement to establish an ALBA development bank to finance joint projects. The bank will be active within two months, the Venezuelan government said. It did not give details on the new bank's funding.

Chavez appears to be creative in attempts to squander the windfall Venezuela gets from oil sales. That is good news for the US because his investment in the sink hole of socialism will diminish his capacity and since he is helping others invest in that sink hole it will diminish even more rapidly. Adding other socialist ticks to his revenue stream is not going to strengthen his defense.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
