The AP's vanishing source

Confederate Yankee takes a long look at AP's sources for 60 stories in Iraq that cannot be found by any other news organization. Even former CNN executive Eason Jordon is disgusted. The AP's stonewall on this source has to come down if they are to regain credibility on their Iraq reports.

I would add that there are some very good AP reporters in Iraq. Antonio Castenado has given excellent stories from his embed in Anbar Province.

Update: Editor & Publisher reports that AP has decided to let the matter of their vanishing source fester in the words of Jordon. The AP continues to stone wall and has a "problem, what problem" attitude. If they are afraid to produce their source, it is time for them to produce their reporter who "talked" with him and let people question the reporter directly. You would think that someone who is supposed to be a Captain in the Iraqi police would at least show up on their records. Does the guy have any pay stubs or a personnel file?
