Sen Tim Scott responds to administration's rationale for abortion

President Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, said Tuesday that making abortion illegal would be bad for the economy.

“I certainly don’t mean to say what I think the effects are in a manner that’s harsh,” Yellen responded. “What we’re talking about is whether or not women will have the ability to regulate their reproductive situation in ways that will enable them to plan lives that are fulfilling and satisfying for them.”

“One aspect of a satisfying life is being able to feel that you have the financial resources to raise a child, that the children you bring into the world are wanted, and that you have the ability to take care of them,” Yellen continued. “In many cases abortions are of teenage women, particularly low-income and often black, who aren’t in a position to be able to care for children, have unexpected pregnancies, and it deprives them of the ability often to continue their education, to later participate in the workforce.”

“I’ll just simply say that as a guy raised by a black woman in abject poverty, I am thankful to be here as a United States Senator,” Scott replied.
He has a good point. Being raised in poverty does not necessarily fix your course in life.  

My parents and those of many others were raised during a severe depression.  My father was the first in his family to graduate from high school and was salutatorian of his class.  He worked his way through college in the depression and graduated with honors.  I had an uncle who quit school after the sixth grade who went on to become a millionaire.  He was one of 11 children of a sharecropper.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014. When the Congressional Budget Office crunched Obamacare's spending numbers, they estimated that only 7% of employees currently covered by employer-sponsored plans would lose their plans. ...
