Russia's dead soldiers last train ride

As the death toll mounts from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine, reports are emerging of stealthy treks being made in the night to hide the true cost to Russia’s army of the invasion.

In the age of the internet, it is much harder to suppress information, and video footage has emerged that purportedly shows military ambulances moving through Homel, in Belarus, where employees at the regional hospital are saying that over 2,500 bodies of Russian soldiers have been sent back to Russia as of March 13th, reported Daily Mail, citing footage uploaded to Radio Free Europe.

In Belarus, where many of the bodies are sent through, the morgues in Homel were described by staff as “overflowing.”

“Passengers at the Mazyr train station were shocked by the number of corpses being loaded on the train. After people started shooting video, the military caught them and ordered them to remove it,” said one resident in Mazyr.

“There are not enough surgeons. Earlier, the corpses were transported by ambulances and loaded on Russian trains. After someone made a video about it and it went on the Internet, the bodies were loaded at night so as not to attract attention,” warned a doctor in Mazyr.

Locals are suffering from the overcrowding, and starting on March 1st, current patients Hospital Number 4 in Homel were being discharged to make room for the sheer volume of wounded Russian soldiers arriving from Ukraine for treatment. In addition, the medications being used to treat the Russians have caused locals to become concerned that none will be left for them, particularly regarding drugs used to treat Tetanus, which is a common affliction for soldiers wounded due to bullets and shrapnel.

Belarus’s dictator, Alexander Lukashenko, in power since the breakup of the Soviet Union in late 1991, has allowed Russian troops to use Belarusian airfields and territory to launch attacks on Ukraine. However, Belarusian troops themselves have not engaged in actual combat, with reports that it is due to rock-bottom morale, and a total lack of enthusiasm for waging war on Ukrainians.

The death toll in Ukraine is staggering by most accounts. Ukraine claims upwards of 14,000 Russians killed in action since the all-out attack began on February 24th, whereas US and British intelligence officials estimate approximately 7,000 or so in that same period – meaning that Russia has in 3 weeks possibly lost as many soldiers as the US did during the 20 year War on Terror in Afghanistan and Iraq. Moscow has claimed that the death toll has been under 500.


Russia’s premier active-duty armored force, the 1st Guards Tank Army, whose forces comprised the north-east (Kharkhov) and eastern (Donbas) sectors of the initial attack, appears to have been effectively wiped out. Ukraine recently claimed the death of a fifth Russian general officer, Lieutenant-General Andrei Mordvichev, who commanded the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army, during a counterattack at Kherson in southern Ukraine.

When the war began there were reports that the Russians were going to use crematoriums to handle the dead, but that does not appear to be the case.  Perhaps the crematoriums were destroyed along with other Russian equipment in the ill-fated war.  The Russian death toll is now approaching 10,000 according to recent reports.  In addition, they have thousands of wounded to deal with some with self-inflicted wounds.

One indication of the number of casualties is the scramble the Russians are making to get fresh troops into Ukraine.  They are taking conscripts up to the age of 65 and as young as teenagers.  Countries this desperate for troops are usually on the verge of losing.
