Reality bites the 'defund the police' movement in Minneapolis

NY Times:

How a Pledge to Dismantle the Minneapolis Police Collapsed

When a majority of City Council members promised to “end policing as we know it” after George Floyd’s killing, they became a case study in how idealistic calls for structural change can falter.
Let's start with the fact that evidence suggests that Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose and was not "killed" by the police.  The defund the police movement never made any sense, to begin with, and it left the minority community with less protection from the predators who prey on them.  The defund movement is what you get when liberals act on emotion rather than rational thought.
