Pipeline to Corpus Christi opened ahead of schedule

Fuel Fix:
Houston pipeline operator Kinder Morgan is staring a new pipeline to move natural gas the from the Permian Basin to Corpus Christi ahead of schedule.

In a statement, Kinder Morgan said its 448-mile Gulf Coast Express Pipeline will begin full commercial service on Wednesday.

Fully booked under long-term contracts, the natural gas transmission will move 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Waha hub in West Texas to the Agua Dulce hub in South Texas.

The 42-inch diameter pipeline was designed to move natural gas from the Permian Basin to the Agua Dulce hub, where it can either be exported on other pipelines to Mexico or liquefied natural gas export terminals along the Gulf Coast.

A joint venture between Kinder Morgan, DCP Midstream and Targa Resources, construction for the Gulf Coast Express Pipeline began in May 2018.

The project involved 3,000 contractors who logged in more than six million hours of work and finished one week ahead of the expected Oct. 1 service date.

This pipeline will supply much-needed relief for oil producers who have not had enough outlets for the natural gas production that comes with the shale wells in West Texas and New Mexico.  It will also be good for the environment by reducing carbon emissions as more plants switch from coal to natural gas not only in the US but also in the countries switching to LNG such as India.  It will also help Europe get an alternative to Russian gas.

It will do much more for the environment than juveniles demonstrating in the street and whining about their future.  It is a more realistic solution to CO2 emissions than that offered by politicians who have threatened to shut down fracking.
