The petrochemical tankers, including a Japanese-owned ship, were attacked in broad daylight in the Gulf of Oman as Japan’s prime minister wrapped up a high-stakes visit to Tehran to help cool hostilities in the region.
This looks like an act of war against the Japanese.  It is made worse by doing it while the Japenese prime minister is meeting with the Islamic religious bigots who rule Iran trying to cool things off.  He got a first-hand look at how duplicitous the Iranian leadership is.
