Ted Cruz points out the absurdity of the Democrat politicians' position on the border barrier and the shutdown

Politico:
Sen. Ted Cruz said Democrats are holding federal workers hostage by not ending the shutdown and refusing to vote on issues that they’ve moved on in the past.

“Here’s the ridiculous thing about the position of Senate Democrats,” the Texas Republican told NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press” on Sunday morning. “This is not substantive. They voted for it before. [Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer and every single Democrat in the Senate in 2013 and voted for 350 miles of additional border fencing and border security. They have now shut the government down over 234 miles.

“So I think an awful lot of people are asking, ‘Well, if you voted for 350 miles, why would you force a shutdown on 234?’” Cruz said. “That is not reasonable and the president remains willing to come together and compromise, but so far the Democrats don’t want to do that.”

When asked why the government can’t be reopened and the Homeland Security debate put aside, Cruz said Democrats are playing politics and holding federal workers “hostage” in the meantime.

“There is a difference between one side, the Democrats, who are saying, 'We will not move, we will not compromise, we will not negotiate' — and the other side, the president, who is saying, 'I’m happy to negotiate,' and what he’s proposing, the Democrats have already voted for.
...
The Democrats are acting irrationally.  Instead of dealing with the shutdown, many of them took a junket to puerto Rico to see a play and to play in the sand.  They are completely unserious about the situation they have created.
