Pakistan braces for a long and deadly war in tribal areas on Afghan border

Military officials worry that Islamist militants will test the South Asian country for years to come.

These guys could have been wiped out years ago if Pakistan was serious about and willing to let the US help them during the early days of the Afghan war.  Instead they insisted on NATO honoring their faux sovereignty over the area which they in fact did not exercise.  Pakistan needs to aggressively cooperate with Afghanistan to eradicate these terrorist.  In the past they have not been willing to sustain operations against them.
