California conservatives love Ted Cruz

Houston Chronicle:
He’s the darling of the conservative movement, an outspoken warriir in heavy demand on the rubber chicken circuit.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s latest gig:

Keynote speaker at the Orange County Republican Party’s 14th Annual Dinner in Southern California. Cruz is described on the event’s invitation as the “future leader of the free world” and a 2016 presidential hopeful.

Scott Baugh, chairman of the Orange County Republican Party and a frequent target of liberal critics, described Cruz as “enormously popular” among rank and file conservatives in Orange County, Calif. because of his “clear and unambiguous” agenda.
“He had us at hello,” Baugh said, citing Cruz’s application of constitutional standards to his policies. “He embodies opportunity conservatism that challenges Republicans to take their policy statements one step beyond the statement itself and explain why our conservative policies improve the lives of all Americans.”

Cruz has recently garnered the media spotlight for his controversial amendment to the immigration reform package that was shot down by the Senate Judiciary Committee with 10 Democrats voting against it, as well as two “Gang of Eight” Republicans. Cruz’s opposition to President Barack Obama’s gun control proposals in the wake of the Newtown school massacre also earned him national attention.

“Tickets and tables are going fast,” the Orange County Republican Party tweeted in late April. “This event will sell out.”
...
He is driving Harry Reed and some of Reed's Republican allies crazy and that is a good thing.  I am glad he is refusing to give unanimous consent  on a budget negotiation with the House in order to avoid allowing the debt ceiling to be raised with just 50 votes.   Cruz is doing what he said he would do and that is one of the reasons conservatives like him.
