Industry under Obama attack fights back

Politico:

The travel industry is “under attack,” and the enemy is…the nation’s very own preening and pontificating politicians.

Berating bailout recipients for business trips and boondoggles has become something of a sport in Washington these days.

But Roger Dow, president of the U.S. Travel Association, says there’s an alarming amount of collateral damage piling up amid the rhetorical broadsides: hotel and airline workers whose jobs are threatened by an abrupt rush by businesses to cancel events.

“This has been painted as an effort to go after fat cats and CEOs,” Dow said. “It’s not the CEOs who are paying the price.”

Now, the travel industry is joining forces to push back, both on policy and tone.

“Want to lose one million more jobs? Just keep talking,” is the headline on one of several print and online advertisements designed for the campaign.

This is a point I have made before and it is good to see that the industry is no longer going to be a stoic punching bag for Obama's moral preening. The travel and entertainment industry may seem frivolous to President Obama, but it is an important business sector of the economy and it makes business possible. Some may think advertising expenses are frivolous, but all you have to do is track the decline in sales when you stop to know it is important. Motivating sales has the same importance and Obama is just showing how little he knows about how it is done.
